Ellie belfiglio

When I hear this sound that awakens me, intimidating its way into my cloistered night, I write…

“For my mom, specially now that she is fighting to be alive”

How could I have waited so long?

It wasn’t that I travelled the wrong path… just the long path home.

You knew not of me, nor I of you,

Yet in my heart I felt there was two.

… (Though an image of only one.)

From another time and another place,

By different lands our lives were shaped.

External forces and unforeseen influences,

Should have resulted in many a difference.

… (But we seem so much alike!)

I wonder of what could have been, would have been,

Had our lives turned on the axis from what is now to what was then;

Or, if the helical spiral had twisted awry in the middle,

There may indeed have been a different ending.

… (I might never have left you!)

For decades of longing for a lost mother,

And with all the memories, then how could I miss her?

Separate roads travelled and obstacles overcome,

Toward a hidden treasure… taken for granted some!

… (But not I, for you are my special mother!)!! …

I am a professor, a poet, an author, and an immigrant. I am the survival of many political and economical hardship. As a political immigrant, it took me a long time to master the English language and to come to terms that I can never see my family again. "THE PARTING FROM MY FAMILY WAS THE BEGINNING OF A FRIENDSHIP THAN THE END OF OUR FRIDAYS!" My autobiography, "THE RAIN STOPS IN TEXAS" was published in 1997 by Eakin Press. It can be found in Amazon. As Ernest Hemingway says, write about something you know, most of my novels are about cultural difference of the old and new and American style of living compare to my home country. My poetry are in all forms. I write as they come to me. My first draft is always my last draft. "THIS IS MY WORLD, WELCOME!" "THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!"
