Ellie belfiglio

When I hear this sound that awakens me, intimidating its way into my cloistered night, I write…

One day I will return…

I will bring a message

I will pour light in the veins

I will talk loudly

I will fill the baskets with apple, the red apple of sun

I will return…

I will give a jasmine to a peddler

I will tell the blind man about sceneries

I will roam the alleys!

I will scream, “Dew on green leaves.”

A passerby will say, “The truth is a dark night.”

I will show him the sky, the stars, the blueness

I will cut the insult from lips

I will destroy all the walls

To the thieves I will say, “My belongings are only smile!”

I will tear the cloud

I will tie the eye with sun, heart with love, shadows with water

And trees with wind.

I will tie the dream of a child with humming

I will water the plants.

I will return…

I will give friends the green grass of caresses

I will return to plant a rose in each wall’s shadow

I will sing a poem beneath each window

I will ask people to make up

I will show them new friends

I will walk

I will breathe light

One day I will return…

I will return to love!! …

I am a professor, a poet, an author, and an immigrant. I am the survival of many political and economical hardship. As a political immigrant, it took me a long time to master the English language and to come to terms that I can never see my family again. "THE PARTING FROM MY FAMILY WAS THE BEGINNING OF A FRIENDSHIP THAN THE END OF OUR FRIDAYS!" My autobiography, "THE RAIN STOPS IN TEXAS" was published in 1997 by Eakin Press. It can be found in Amazon. As Ernest Hemingway says, write about something you know, most of my novels are about cultural difference of the old and new and American style of living compare to my home country. My poetry are in all forms. I write as they come to me. My first draft is always my last draft. "THIS IS MY WORLD, WELCOME!" "THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!"

  1. Great poem! This very much reminds me of Kahlil Gibran or the wonderful Persian Poet Rumi. Excellent verse and fantastic imagery!

Let everybody be nice!
